Langa Mavuso Brings Therapy to Life With an Intimate Johannesburg Performance

by | Oct 5, 2026 | Entertainment

There’s something fitting about taking an album centred on grief, healing and identity into a room small enough for its stories to feel personal. For Langa Mavuso, that room was Johannesburg’s Kumalo Turpin Gallery at Nine Yards, where he performed for an audience of 120 on Friday, 2 October. Created with Stella Artois, the one-night-only Curated Experience gave guests a first glimpse of how Therapy: The Other Side is being reimagined for the stage. A live orchestra accompanied the singer-songwriter, giving the songs fresh arrangements while his personal storytelling connected the music to the experiences behind it.

The performance arrives a year after the album’s release, with a deluxe edition on the way and a new perspective on songs that listeners have made their own.

Revisiting the Music From the Other Side

For Mavuso, returning to Therapy: The Other Side means revisiting music whose meaning has shifted since he first recorded it. What began as a personal exploration of grief, healing and identity has become something shared with his audience. “These songs mean something different to me now because they no longer belong only to me. People have lived with them, found themselves in them and given them new meaning,” he said.

That connection is shaping what comes next. The Johannesburg performance paired orchestral reinterpretations with storytelling, while fashion and design contributed to the gallery setting. “This next chapter is about taking everything Therapy has become and pushing it somewhere we haven’t taken it before,” Mavuso said. It’s an approach that gives him room to explore how the songs can grow through live performance, with the audience close enough to engage with both the music and the stories.

A New Chapter After an Award-Winning Year

The experience follows a significant year for Mavuso. He earned his first South African Music Award for Best Produced Album for Therapy, while “Dangerous” received a Metro FM Music Award nomination. His September single, “I Choose You”, leads into Therapy: The Other Side (Deluxe), set for release on 16 October 2026, extending the album’s journey as he develops its live expression.

Stella Artois supported the gallery experience through its Worth More platform, bringing together the venue, hospitality and performance. The music remained the focus of an evening designed around hearing the work up close.

What Comes Next

The Johannesburg experience was just the beginning. Mavuso is heading out on The Other Side Tour, bringing songs from across his decade-long career to stages around South Africa, alongside new music from his forthcoming deluxe album.
