South Africa hosted its first Premier Padel tournament at Pretoria’s SunBet Arena, Time Square, bringing many of the sport’s leading players to local fans for a landmark week of competition. Thousands of spectators attended the Pretoria Premier P1, highlighting the country’s growing appetite for major international sporting events and the rapid rise of padel locally.
Pretoria Welcomes the World’s Best Padel Players
South African fans had their first opportunity to watch some of the world’s top-ranked padel players compete on home soil. The high-level action on court was supported by entertainment and fan activations throughout the venue, creating a lively atmosphere that continued between matches.
The tournament marked another important milestone for padel in South Africa. Once considered a niche pursuit, it has developed into one of the country’s fastest-growing sporting communities, attracting players across different ages and ability levels. Its appeal also extends beyond competition. The social nature of padel has helped build communities around courts and clubs across the country, making the sport as much about connection as it is about performance.
Heineken Creates a Courtside Meeting Point

As a tournament partner, Heineken helped shape the experience away from the court through the Heineken Silver Courtside Club. The activation became one of the venue’s busiest spaces, offering spectators a place to catch up, relax and remain connected to the tournament between matches. Whether fans were following every rally from the stands or taking a break from the action, the Courtside Club became a natural meeting point throughout the event.
“Premier Padel gave South African fans the opportunity to experience one of the world’s fastest-growing sports at the highest level, and we were proud to help make that experience even more memorable,” said Warrick Wyngaard, Marketing Communication Manager at Heineken.
“For us, great sporting moments aren’t only about what happens on the court. They’re about bringing people together and creating opportunities for fans to connect through the sports they love. The energy and enthusiasm we saw throughout the tournament reinforced why these kinds of experiences matter.”
Why Premier Padel Was a Natural Fit for Heineken
The partnership reflected Heineken’s focus on bringing people together through shared experiences. With padel continuing to attract new players and supporters in South Africa, the tournament gave the brand an opportunity to connect with a rapidly growing sporting community. It also demonstrated what can happen when elite competition is combined with an engaging spectator experience. Fans were given access to world-class sport while enjoying a tournament atmosphere designed to keep them involved throughout the day.
Galán, Chingotto, Triay and Brea Triumph in Pretoria
Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto were crowned the men’s champions, while Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea claimed the women’s title. By the time the final point was played, Pretoria had shown that it was capable of hosting padel at the highest level. For South African supporters, the tournament offered a rare opportunity to watch some of the sport’s biggest stars compete up close.

The success of the inaugural event also showed how quickly padel has established itself in South Africa. With a growing community of players and supporters, the country appears ready to become a regular destination for world-class padel. Beyond the results, the Pretoria Premier P1 celebrated the shared passion that brings sports fans together and demonstrated how major events can create lasting experiences both on and off the court.
