There’s no better way to toast World Paloma Day on 22 May than with a crisp tequila cocktail in hand. And this year, Don Julio is putting the spotlight on one of the world’s most-loved serves: the Paloma.

Known for its refreshing blend of citrus and tequila, the Paloma has become a go-to cocktail for warm afternoons, long lunches and easy entertaining. Originally rooted in Mexican cocktail culture, the drink has grown into a global favourite thanks to its balance of bright grapefruit, lime and smooth tequila notes.

To celebrate World Paloma Day 2026, Don Julio is encouraging cocktail lovers to try the Don Paloma, a refined take on the classic recipe made with Don Julio Blanco. The tequila’s clean and vibrant flavour profile pairs naturally with fresh grapefruit juice and soda water, creating a drink that feels both elevated and easy to enjoy.

“Don Julio Blanco is made for mixing, and its unique taste profile makes it the perfect companion. The Don Paloma isn’t just a cocktail, it’s a sensorial experience,” says Cebisa Luzipho, In-Culture Manager for Don Julio South, West and Central Africa.

Why the Paloma Works So Well

While margaritas often steal the spotlight, many tequila fans consider the Paloma the more refreshing option. Grapefruit adds a slightly bitter citrus edge that balances the sweetness of agave and the earthy notes of tequila, while soda water keeps the drink light and crisp. It also happens to be one of the easiest tequila cocktails to make at home.
