G-STAR is going back to its roots. But this time, it’s doing so with sharper lines, premium fabrics and a clear vision for the future. Launched on 3 February 2026, Archetypes is a tightly curated collection that taps into the brand’s utilitarian DNA. Built around denim, the range revisits foundational garments inspired by military uniforms, workwear staples and early performance-driven designs, then refines them through modern construction and elevated materials. The result is not nostalgia. It’s precision.
Built From the Archive
According to Jennifer Zipp, Director of Design at G-STAR, the collection began with a deep dive into the brand’s own history. “G-STAR has a strong utilitarian heritage, so Archetypes began with a deep dive into our own archive. By researching historic garments and how they evolved to serve a purpose, we focused on the details that truly mattered, translating function into modern design.”

That focus on function shows up in the details. Clean silhouettes. Purposeful pocket placement. Considered proportions. Durable fabrics designed to hold structure while evolving with wear. This is utility stripped back to its essentials and rebuilt for daily life.
Denim Is the Foundation
Denim anchors the collection. Selvedge fabrics woven on vintage shuttle looms in specialist mills in Japan and Italy are used across key styles. These are fabrics chosen for their structure, depth and ability to develop character over time. It is a clear nod to craftsmanship. The kind that rewards patience and regular wear.

Gwenda van Vliet, Chief Brand Officer at G-STAR, frames Archetypes as more than just another drop. “For Archetypes, we went back to the core of G-STAR, to the archive, to the original purpose of the garments, to the pieces that defined who we are. This premium collection is an expression of our DNA and sets the blueprint for the future of the brand.”
The Standout Pieces
Several hero items anchor the range. The Field Jacket reinterprets a style originally worn by the U.S. 10th Mountain Division in Italy. It keeps the clean silhouette but sharpens the construction, resulting in a piece that feels equally at home in the city or outdoors.

The Deeggie jean offers a relaxed mid-rise straight fit, cut from untreated 14.25 oz Italian selvedge denim woven on original 1960s shuttle looms. It is finished with selvedge detailing along the outseam and pocket folds, and will develop a personalised fade over time.
Then there is the Dismounted Raincoat, which updates 1940s U.S. military rainwear with a refined, contemporary edge. The M-51 Cargos draw from the original M-1951 shell pant, designed for extreme cold weather and worn over a padded liner, now streamlined for everyday versatility.

Designed for Everyday Performance
Archetypes is grounded in wearability. Each piece is designed to function in real life, where longevity, comfort and adaptability matter more than trends. Fabric, construction and proportion lead the design process. The aesthetic is clean, confident and built to last. The G-STAR Archetypes collection is available in selected stores and online at g-star.com from 3 February 2026. Prices range from R3 023,03 to R14 170,45.
