The topic of women and what they want has always been viewed as complicated but with researchers spending their time and money on interesting, amusing and at times strange studies to enlighten the opposite sex about what women really want.
It has created the once cloudy subject of a woman’s wants a ‘lil clearer.
A recent study that deals with women wants and suggests how you can secure that second date with the woman of your choice; the quickest way to a woman’s heart could be via her funny bone but not for the reasons you might be thinking of.
Yes, previous studies have said that women prefer funny men as it’s a sign of their intelligence but this study begs to differ.
Published in the Evolutionary Psychology, Professor Jeffrey Hall wanted to uncover why women view a man’s humour as a sign of his sociability and potential fun as an outgoing partner.
Hall used a modern method of investigation by recruiting 35 participants who had to study Facebook profiles of 100 strangers and then anticipate user’s personalities in a survey.
“Facebook profiles which were perceived as humorous were more likely to also be perceived as extroverted and less likely to be perceived as intelligent. This finding contradicts previous theories that speculate women prefer funny mates because it is an indication of their intelligence.”
A second study was then conducted in which 300 students had to fill out a survey relating what role humour played in their romantic life. Results of the student’s answers and their GPA and ACT test scores where used to find a link between how smart an individual was and how humorous they reported themselves to be.
Hall was surprised by the fact that the two were largely unconnected and instead he found that there was a link between reported humour and extroversion.
A final study was done where Hall observed both men’s usage of humour and women’s appreciation of a potential partner’s humorous attempts in a real life setting which required 51 pairs of single heterosexual college students who do not know each other had have to sit alone and talk for 10 minutes.
“Results gave clear insight into how humour works in the initial stages of courtship and revealed that the more times a man tried to be funny and the more times a woman laughed at his jokes, the more likely she was to become romantically interested. The more times that a pair laughed together, the more likely they were to be interested in each other.”
People like to laugh and tend to gravitate towards those who prompt it, so while keeping the initial stages of your relationship romantic and cute, do remember to keep it funny and playful, and she might be hooked.
“Part of what it means to be social is the ability to joke along with people; hared laughter might be a pathway toward developing a more long-lasting relationship,” Hall said in a statement.
