Outjie is here. Maurice Paige brings heat to Netflix’s Kings of Jo’burg Season 3 in a role that’s physical, personal and powerful, a tribute to Shona Ferguson and a promise fulfilled.
Maurice Paige is no stranger to South African screens, but in Kings of Jo’burg Season 3, he’s entering a new league entirely—as the unpredictable and imposing Outjie. For Paige, this isn’t just a breakout role, it’s a promise kept.
“This is quite personal,” he says, reflecting on the legacy of the late Shona Ferguson, who launched the Kings of Jo’burg franchise and helped shape Paige’s early career. “We spoke about this project while working on Isidingo. I told him then I wanted to be part of it, no matter how. So when I finally joined the cast, it was about honouring his name, his legacy and keeping my word.”

Outjie Is Built Different
Paige brings a potent mix of physicality and emotional depth to Outjie, a gang leader with his own sense of honour and strategy. “Outjie isn’t just another gangster,” he says. “He’s got his own code. I wanted him to stand out, someone with presence but also with depth. Someone viewers could see themselves in.” To prepare, Paige doubled his gym sessions and grew a beard for the first time. “I wanted him to look solid but not overly muscled,” he explains. “Just enough mass to intimidate, but also move.”

But the real shift was internal. “I did a lot of mental prep, yoga, spiritual practice and focus drills. I wanted to create something layered. Something real.”
The Heart of the Series Is Family
Paige says Season 3 explores key themes like loyalty, family and masculinity. “You’ve got two gangs who’ll do anything for power, but also for their families. That’s what I want audiences to take away. No matter how dark it gets, it’s all rooted in love, protection and legacy.”
Holding His Own Among Giants
With a cast that includes heavyweights like Connie Ferguson and Zolisa Xaluva, Paige could’ve felt the pressure. But instead, he felt right at home. “We’ve worked together before. There’s respect. And this project carried so much weight because it honours Shona. Everyone came prepared to give more.”
Mental Health Comes First
Away from the set, Paige is big on mindset and wellness. “I’ve had mental burnout before. Now I wake up at 4 a.m., sit in darkness and reflect. I feed my brain positivity. I even talk to myself in the mirror. It helps. That’s how I stay grounded.”

He’s also learned to value stillness as much as sweat. “I’ve always trained hard, but now my mental fitness is even more important than my physical. I know the body in and out. It’s the mind I’ve had to work on.”
A Full-Circle Moment
The Men’s Health digital cover is more than just another milestone. “I’ve wanted this for years, since Isidingo,” says Paige. “To be here now, speaking to a broader audience about fitness, health and mindset—it’s a dream come true.”
His advice to anyone struggling? “Start by giving yourself 20 minutes a day. No noise. No pressure. Just you. Think about what’s good. Remind yourself you’re a good person. Talk to yourself if you have to. It starts there.”
What to Expect in Season 3
When asked to sum up Kings of Jo’burg Season 3, Paige doesn’t hesitate. “It’s Mission Impossible, South African style. Hardcore. Family. Loyalty.” And Maurice Paige? He’s just getting started.
