LIV Golf South Africa is putting real weight behind its promise to create impact beyond the fairways. Ahead of its first-ever tournament on African soil, the global golf league has invested R1.6 million into community upliftment initiatives in Diepsloot through a partnership with the Steyn City Foundation.
The investment marks a significant social legacy milestone ahead of LIV Golf South Africa 2026, set to take place from 19 to 22 March at The Club at Steyn City in Johannesburg.
Investing Beyond the Course
The contribution reflects LIV Golf’s broader ambition to use its global sporting platform to drive positive social change, inspire young people and leave a lasting legacy in the communities that host its events.
The R1.6 million investment will be split equally between two of the Steyn City Foundation’s flagship programmes: Delivering Happiness to Diepsloot and the Growzone. Both initiatives focus on improving the lives of young children in the surrounding community, particularly during critical early development years.
Supporting Children at Grassroots Level
Delivering Happiness to Diepsloot is an annual outreach programme that reaches more than 13,500 primary school learners each year. The initiative provides children with school backpacks filled with stationery, toys and treats, helping to ease financial pressure on families while encouraging school attendance and engagement.

The Growzone, the foundation’s year-round food security programme, plays an equally vital role. Operated by eight full-time staff members from the local community, the on-site nursery supplies fresh produce to 51 Early Childhood Development centres in Diepsloot. This ensures consistent access to nutritious food for young learners during their formative years.
A Long-Term Social Legacy
According to Chris Bentley, VP Regional Managing Director of LIV Golf South Africa, the investment speaks to the organisation’s intention to create impact that lasts long after the final putt drops.
“From the outset, LIV Golf has been about more than just hosting a world-class sporting event,” says Bentley. “We want LIV Golf to have a real and lasting impact on the communities around us, and South Africa presents both an incredible opportunity and a real need. Partnering with the Steyn City Foundation allows us to support programmes that are already making a measurable difference to young lives.”
Steven Louw, CEO of Steyn City Properties, welcomed the contribution, highlighting its role in strengthening the foundation’s long-term sustainability.
“This generous donation will enable us to take the Growzone to the next phase by establishing it as a commercially viable and self-sustainable operation,” says Louw. “Produce grown at the Growzone will be sold to food and beverage outlets within the estate, including the hotel, clubhouse restaurant and selected Auto and General food and beverage operations.”
Louw adds that food security remains a cornerstone of the foundation’s work, particularly in early childhood development. “Ensuring the Growzone’s sustainability means we can continue providing nourishment that supports growth, development and readiness for formal schooling.”
Golf With Purpose
For Steyn City, hosting the first LIV Golf event in Africa carries meaning beyond the sporting spectacle. “It is an honour to showcase some of the world’s best golfing talent at our estate,” says Louw. “But we are equally focused on ensuring the event leaves a meaningful impact at grassroots level and reaches South Africans from all walks of life.”
