The Springboks geared up for their clash against Ireland on Saturday 22 November with a world first and it paid off. South Africa became the first rugby team to use Nike’s new Mind Mule, a neuroscience driven footwear innovation designed to sharpen mental focus and boost sensory awareness before and after competition. The team put it to the test ahead of their showdown and went on to secure a 21-13 victory.
The Mind Mule forms part of Nike Mind, an innovation platform created by the Nike Sport Research Lab. The platform explores how the brain, sensory activation and mental readiness influence performance. While the England National Football Team has already tested the technology, the Springboks are the first rugby side to integrate it into their pre game routine and the first to showcase it on the international stage with a win.
