This past weekend, Castle Double Malt gave Cape Town a taste of something truly unique: the Extra Smooth Express, a vintage rail journey that paired world-class performances with perfectly poured pints and jaw-dropping scenery.
The experience was more than just a ride. It was a moving celebration of craftsmanship, community and connection.
A Journey Like No Other
From the moment the train rolled out of Cape Town, guests were transported to another era. A roaming conductor, live saxophonist and magician kept the carriages buzzing with energy. Meanwhile, DJs and vocalists filled the train with music. Golden light streamed through the windows as rolling mountains and valleys of the Cape Floral Kingdom passed by. This set the stage for an extraordinary day.

The Brew Master’s Experience was another highlight. It was an intimate guided tasting that showcased the artistry behind Castle Double Malt. Guests discovered how two premium local malts are blended to create the beer’s signature smooth taste. The result is a rich golden pour with full-bodied flavour and creamy foam.
Music That Made the Night
When the train pulled into the historic Elgin Railway Market, the celebration hit full stride. A live jazz band greeted guests on the platform. Then the venue transformed into a stage for some of South Africa’s most exciting performers.

Host Kyeezi kept the energy high as Jay Sax’s exhilarating jazz opened the evening. Ami Faku followed with soulful vocals that had the crowd hanging on every note. Then kwaito legends TKZee brought the house down with era-defining hits like Fella Kae and Dlala Mapantsula. DJ Loyd closed things out with a high-energy set that kept the dance floor moving late into the night.
“Performing for such an intimate yet electric crowd, in such a beautiful setting, was unforgettable,” said Zwai Bala of TKZee. “There is something magical about everyone arriving on that train together. The energy just builds, and by the time we hit the stage, the crowd was ready for a night they will never forget.”
More Than an Event
For Castle Double Malt, the Extra Smooth Express was about more than beer, music, or travel. It was about creating shared moments that live beyond the night.

“This was a celebration of craftsmanship and community,” said Thomas Lawrence, Brand Director for Castle Double Malt. “The Extra Smooth Express is where timeless style meets modern artistry, and where people come together to create memories that last long after the journey ends.”
