On Grooming and Confidence

When it comes to grooming, Mokoena believes it’s about more than just appearance. “Firstly, I think a man must have confidence,” he says with a laugh. Growing up as one of five boys, he learned the importance of taking care of himself early on. “Looking at the man in the mirror, dressing well and maintaining your hair are essential. But as we evolve as humans, I’ve become more aware of gut health and its impact on how you look and feel.”

Mokoena swears by products that cater to Afro-textured hair, highlighting innovations that have transformed grooming for men like him. “There’s a game-changing element in how products soften and nourish hair, making them truly life-changing,” he shares. For Mokoena, grooming is not just about aesthetics but a way to honour his family hence his beard care line, Bakoena Beards. “Taking care of myself goes beyond the basics. It’s about justice to my children—being healthier and happier so they see a positive role model.”

Defining Moments in Film and Television

Reflecting on his journey, Mokoena credits people as the heart of his career. “People make TV. We make shows. People make events. To be kind and present is key.” He recalls moments that shaped him, emphasising the value of collaboration and humility in an industry often fraught with egos. “If I come off a set where they treat you like a god, I still bring myself down to human level. That humility carries over to everything I do.”

Entrepreneurship and Leadership

Beyond acting, Mokoena has embraced roles as a producer and entrepreneur. “The values and integrity you uphold as a CEO are the same qualities you should keep as a leading actor or ambassador,” he explains. For him, it’s about consistency and maintaining a strong value system. “Integrity is important and we lack it too often. I want to be someone who treats people with respect and fairness, whether I’m on set or in the office.”

Looking Ahead

As for what’s next, Mokoena is excited about the projects lined up for 2025. “I’ve spent 2024 shooting a movie and two series, including the much-anticipated second season of Fatal Seduction,” he reveals. While he’s tight-lipped about some details, it’s clear he’s been busy expanding his creative portfolio. “There’s so much happening and I can’t wait to share it all with my fans.”
