Adam Goldberg’s Tips On Shooting A Great Short

Perfect the art of the six-second video with these tips from actor, director and musician Adam Goldberg, who’s created more than 250 Vine short films.

Hold It!
Minimise camera jiggle by planting your smartphone on a mobile tripod, like the ATC Universal Tripod Phone Holder (R590, wantitall.co.za). It’s an essential if you’re using stop-motion or time-lapse techniques.

Make Some Noise
To block out unwanted ambient sound, connect your phone to a small microphone, like the Apogee MiC (R3 739, wantitall.co.za). Or pre-record the sound using a compact looper – you can buy them online, but be warned, they’re not cheap.

Define Your Style
Pick up the Olloclip 3-in-1 lens system (R1 621, wantitall.co.za). This detachable gadget offers a wide-angle, macro or fish-eye view to add variety to your video.

Pick A Plot
Goldberg often uses dreams, personalities or props to tell a tale. Choose an item – a plastic bag, 3D glasses, a wig – and build a story around it.
